From the best-selling author of Three Amazing Things About You and The One You Really Want comes a sweet, funny tale of a romantic encounter that throws everything up in the air. For readers of Lucy Diamond, Cecelia Ahern and Cathy Kelly.

Poppy Dunbar is out on her hen night when she meets Tom Kennedy. With his dark eyes and quirky smile, he could lure any girl off the straight and narrow, but what really draws Poppy to him is the feeling that she's known him all her life. She can't go through with the meeting they arrange - but she can't go through with the wedding either.

Suddenly notorious as 'The Girl Who Jilted Rob Macbride', Poppy moves to London. Soon she's installed in the bohemian household of Caspar French, a ravishingly good-looking young artist with a reputation for breaking hearts. But even in her colourful new home, Poppy can't get Tom off her mind. Until she's tracked him down, she'll never know if their meeting was destiny - or if the future holds something entirely different for her....

Perfect Timing (Audible Audio Edition) Jill Mansell Karen Crass Headline Review Books

This is the second book I read by Jill Mansell. I found Perfect Timing on my Kindle for a discounted price back in the Fall. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I'm finding that I really like British lit, and Mansell's books always seem to have a lot of characters so it's like reading a soap opera. But most importantly, there are great intertwining storylines, a long line of interesting characters, and many laughs along the way.

Poppy Dunbar's life gets flipped upside-down the night before her wedding when she has a chance encounter with a perfect stranger outside a bar. In a matter of hours, she calls off her wedding, learns the man she's called dad her entire life is not her biological father, and flees Bristol for London. As she sets out on her quest to find her birth father and that handsome man she met hours before she was set to walk down the aisle, Poppy meets a wide array of new friends and acquaintances in London. The lives of her new roommates, Caspar and Claudia, her new boss, Jake, her old pal from Bristol, Dina, and even that mystery man, Tom, all intertwine as the story follows Poppy during the year following her almost wedding. And through drama, laughs, and some ridiculous circumstances, she comes to learn there's no such thing as perfect timing.

Like Take a Chance on Me, Perfect Timing is an easy read and a great book for an afternoon or night curled up by the fire!

Perfect Timing (Audible Audio Edition) Jill Mansell Karen Crass Headline Review Books Reviews

I purchased this becasuse it was 2.99 on the and the reviews were pretty decent. The story started off well but as it drug on I found myself skipping around to get to the end. I found the characters unlikeable, boring, and pretty stupid. Usually when I read a book a connect and root for the main character. I could not do so in this case. First of all, the whole Poppy-Tom thing was ridiculous as was her friend Dina's behavior. Claudia was unlikeable as well. With that being said I did enjoy the ending and I found the beginning to be good too- it's just the middle of the book that seemed to drag on and on.
Jill Mansell writes the most charming, wonderful Brit Lit, that it's really hard to differentiate plot. She has an unerring way of drawing the reader to her very real characters, so that when they get into their impossible scrapes, romantic and otherwise, we are simply charmed.

"Perfect Timing" is no exception. Our heroine, Poppy, meets a tall dark stranger on her "hen night" (British for bachelorette party) and realizes to her horror that she is not ready to get married. She horrifies all and sundry in her small Bristol neighborhood by breaking off the engagement on the morning of the wedding itself--and hies herself off to London to hide.

There, she promptly gets herself two jobs, and elbows her way into a large house owned by laid-back up-and-coming artist Caspar French, who already has one roommate, voluptuous and very VERY jealous Claudia. Poppy moves in, and the fun just rumbles on from page to page.

During the story, romances are made and broken, hilarious characters appear and disappear, there are tears, some best-to-be-forgotten all-night bashes, and of course everything turns out just fine in the end.

Another Mansell gem!
Jill Mansell's books all pretty much have the same formula, they seem to anyway. Girl and guy can't get or won't get together, girl's best friend interested in someone that may or may not be in them, somebody's parent also has a love story going on.

Her secondary characters get just as much time in the spotlight as the main ones. In some of her books, it's tedious and makes the story drag on forever but not in this one. I really enjoyed all of the characters stories. I've read this one at least twice and loved it just as much the second time.

Poppy's story is very entertaining and heartwarming to read. The only side story I did not like was her almost sister-in-law Dina's. That being said she is not as prominent in the story as other secondary characters so I give this 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this story - it could have been quite predictable, but definitely wasn't! I found all the characters quite believeable - I'm sure I've met someone like each of them at some point in my life. Well, maybe not Caspar, but I know there are blokes like him, too.

When bride-to-be Poppy ditches her fiance at the last moment and then takes off for London, you have to admire her bravery. She could have easily settled for what seemed like it would be a decent life, with a decent man. But she got a glimpse of what life *could* be for her, through a very momentary meeting with a stranger, and that was enough to spur her on. (Later you see that her friend Dina, though probably a bit wilder than Poppy, had actually taken the path Poppy runs from. Now Dina burns to try Poppy's new life, despite having a young baby. The author doesn't judge either path, and Dina finds her true heart's place as well -- and it's not what you might guess.)

Will Poppy end up with the handsome stranger she felt that spark with? Or with her rich, handsome landlord? Or with her kind but daggy boss? Or - ? Add her flatmate Claudia into the mix and matching up pairs becomes a real puzzle. Whenever I thought I had it figured out, everything changed, and in a natural, believable way.

I also enjoyed the sub-plot of Poppy's finding her birth father, and the lifelong friend she makes in that pursuit. The intertwining relationships are a delight, and it's a fun book that keeps you guessing. Poppy is a character with, to use the old-fashioned term, gumption.
